Contains photographs of the following military units: 7th U.S. Cavalry; 9th U.S. Cavalry. General description of the collection: The Edward Settle Godfrey photograph collection consists of photos that reflect his interest in the disastrous battle of the Little Big Horn. Officers of the 7th Cavalry Regiment, the Little Big Horn Battlefield, monuments, and return trips to the battlefield comprise the bulk of his collection. Two boxes contain portrait photos of officers of the 7th U.S. Cavalry and their wives; one box contains photos of the United States Army Military Academy (USMA), West Point, Class of 1867; one box contains photos of western American Indians, and one box contains photos of western military posts. The remainder of the boxes are of family matters and world travels.

Edward Settle Godfrey was a United States (U.S.) Army officer. He spent most of his Army career as a company officer in the 7th U.S. Cavalry Regiment. After seeing action as a short-term volunteer in the Union Army in 1861, he entered the United States Military Academy (USMA) in 1863 and graduated in 1867.
